Clinical Dermatology at Beverly Hills Dermatology Consultants
Los Angeles dermatologist, Letantia Bussell, MD and her staff offer patients the full range of skin care services, including:
- Acne Treatment: we provide the best treatment to get rid of acne in teenagers and adults by tailoring the protocol specifically to you. Depending on the patient, we may perform drainage and extraction, acid peels or liquid nitrogen treatments in the office, recommend topical treatments to apply at home, or prescribe oral medications such as antibiotics or hormonal treatments. For more information about the different types of acne, causes, treatments and home remedies, see our blog.
- Acne Scars: scarring from acne can look different depending on a patient's skin, as well as the type and severity of the acne breakout. Scars may appear as hyper-pigmented areas (dark spots), uneven skin texture or craters. Regardless, we can help with in-office procedures such as acid peels, liquid nitrogen treatments and the French Cosmopen micro-needling or with topical medications that you may be able to apply from home. Our acne scar removal treatments can help your skin to become smoother in texture and more even in appearance
- Removal of Warts and Genital Warts: warts are caused by a highly contagious virus, known as the human papilloma virus. Different strains of HPV can cause warts on the skin (often on the hands and feet), as well as genital warts, which is one of the most common STDs today. Warts are growths on the skin, where the virus has infected healthy tissue, which can vary in appearance. To get rid of a wart or genital wart, the infected skin cells must be destroyed. This may be achieved through in-office procedures where, depending on the size, location and severity of the wart, we may use cryotherapy (freezing), acid (burning) or topical medications designed to target and destroy the wart virus DNA. These techniques should only be performed by a certified medical professional. Call (310) 550-7661 for a consultation if you are concerned about this bothersome but very treatable condition.
- Herpes, Cold Sores, Fever Blister Management: these terms describe the condition where the herpes simplex virus I or II causes people to have uncomfortable blistering on the mouth (oral herpes) or genital area (genital herpes). The virus is typically transmitted through intimate physical contact (kissing, sex) while the infected person is experiencing a flare-up (active blister), although asymptomatic shedding can occur. While there is no cure, long-term prescription treatments can reduce the frequency and intensity of flare-ups and also help prevent transmission to an uninfected partner.
Other skin conditions we treat include rashes, eczema, psoriasis and rosacea, as well as those affecting the hair and nails. We perform mole removal and recommend all patients have a bi-annual skin scan (full-body exam). We are specialists in the treatment and needs of ethnic skin. In Los Angeles, the sun is strong so we advise all patients to protect themselves; see our blog posts for more information and tips on prevention, as well as on procedures and products that can reduce visible sun damage of the skin.
